CHALET INFORMATION & RULES:
Parking:
Parking is allowed in ALL Mount Spokane State Park lots during open hours. Open hours are dawn to dusk in Summer, and from 7:15am - 10:00 pm during Winter(December 1-March 31). Cars left after hours may be towed at the owner’s expense. Parking permit requirements must be followed: Discover Pass for Summer and SnoPark permit for Winter. In the winter, members of your group who plan to stay overnight must park in the wide parking area approximately 0.25 miles beyond the intersection of Mount Spokane State Park Drive and the Summit Road to avoid a ticket or being towed. This is technically a State Parks parking area, and we have received special permission to leave vehicles here for overnight use. No overnight parking is allowed in any other parking lot. Spokane Mountaineers parking pass and Chalet code must be obtained from Chalet Chair prior to visit. In the Summer, there is limited parking at the Chalet itself. No Discover Pass permits are required on Mountaineers’ property. The driveway cannot be plowed for winter access, and members should use caution/check weather reports in the fall. High clearance vehicle recommended for Chalet driveway access in summer months.
The Chalet and Chalet property is for members and guests of members (& a member must be present when guests visit); it is not to be rented out. Children (17 & under) may not be left unattended at the chalet or on the mountaineers’ property; an adult must be
present at all times.
What to know:
There is no running water at the chalet property. You will need to pack in all the water for your event/trip.
In the Winter, you may melt snow if needed.
In the Summer, there is a path that drops down to Brickle Creek. This water is okay for washing/cooking so long as it is boiled first. Filter if you intend to drink it.
During Winter, all Chalet visitors and guests are required to help keep the Chalet deck clear of snow, as well as the path to the outhouse. This applies to even short visits to help prevent too much snow accumulation & impaction on the deck.
Any snow cave building must take place to the uphill side of the Chalet, well away from both the building and any high-use trail areas. No snow caves should be built in the vicinity of the building or in the area below the deck. Please collapse when done. Tent platforms should not be built in the vicinity of the sledding hill. Please use the area uphill of the Chalet building or the woods just east of the Chalet.
Beware of falling snow from the roof to prevent injury of both children and adults.
Leave No Trace (LNT)/hygiene & etiquette:
All Chalet visitors must assist in outhouse cleaning. Please, clean up after your own group. If you notice any supplies are running low, please contact the Chalet Chair immediately following your trip.
DO NOT place inorganic matter/garbage in the outhouse. Feminine hygiene must be packed out.
If you bring a dog to the Chalet, please pick up after your pet. Visitors must clean up after their dog and pack out all the poop bags. Dogs are not permitted inside the Chalet building.
Note: the Chalet and outhouse do not receive regular cleaning.
Using the Chalet Building:
SIGN IN in the book (near the kitchen counter) when you arrive—this applies to ALL members of your group.
Pets are NOT PERMITTED inside.
No smoking inside.
There is electricity in the Chalet, but you'll need to turn the breaker box on when you enter. It is past the kitchen and to the right of the old entrance (there is a big door to nowhere next to the breaker box). Turn all breakers off (except refrigerator) before leaving. DO NOT TURN OFF THE MAIN BREAKER.
There are two heaters in the chalet—one in the living room, and one in the dining room.
Please double check that the electric heaters are turned off using both their on/off knobs.
AND ALSO at the breaker box before leaving (bottom breaker, which is frequently missed when turning off the breakers).
Food Storage:
Don’t leave food out overnight. Store it safely.
Inside Sleeping Arrangements:
Max of 10 guests overnight.
Bring your own bedding/sleeping bag.
The upstairs is closed at this time.
The Chalet key should always be left inside the lockbox when the Chalet door is locked. Do not lock the door and leave the key inside the building or in a pocket. Chalet is open to all club members for use, even if reserved, unless it is for classes or otherwise posted on club calendar.
Last but not least, leave the building clean and the wood plentiful. Questions or concerns, please contact Chalet Chair, Kristy Canright, chalet_chair@spokanemountaineers.org or message Kristy within this site. If an emergency occurs, call or text Kristy at 509-599-6743.
